Gemini Outage Leaves Google Search and AI Features Unscathed

A major Gemini outage did not disrupt Google Search or its AI-powered features. Company leaders confirmed no impact on AI Mode or AI Overviews. Users saw no interruption in search results.

Despite a series of outages affecting Gemini, Google's AI platform, on June 11, 2026, Google Search and its advanced features—including AI Mode and AI Overviews—remained fully operational. Concerns arose as Gemini powers some of the search experience, but Google executives quickly clarified the situation.

Rajan Patel, VP of Engineering for Search at Google, responded directly to questions about the incident, stating there was "no" impact on Google Search or its generative AI features. This assurance was echoed by Josh Woodward, a Google product leader, who acknowledged the Gemini outage on X and promised swift resolution. "Gemini is currently experiencing an outage. We're on it and will get everything back up ASAP. Some of the fixes are in, the rest coming very soon. Stay tuned for updates, and thanks for bearing with us!" Woodward posted during the disruption.

Patel's brief but clear response—"No."—confirmed that AI Overviews and AI Mode continued to function normally, even as Gemini services were being restored. The outage was resolved later that day, with Woodward updating users that everything was back online.

This incident highlights the resilience of Google's core search infrastructure, even as it integrates more AI-driven capabilities. For those interested in how Google is expanding analytics for creators, see the recent coverage of its new Insights feature for Search Profiles in this related report.
