Survey Reveals Who Runs AI-Powered SEO in Companies

A new poll shows that SEO teams overwhelmingly lead AI-driven search optimization in most organizations. Only a tiny fraction trust non-SEO teams with this responsibility. Find out what this means for hiring and strategy.

Burzhuy SEO specialist Aleida Solis has published the results of a recent poll among her followers, asking who is responsible for search engine optimization using artificial intelligence within their companies. After collecting over 1,212 responses, the findings are clear: 86% say their SEO team leads AI-powered search optimization efforts. Another 9% report that a search team combining AI specialists and optimizers is in charge, while just 1% rely on a search team using AI without any optimizers. The remaining 2% assign this work to another digital marketing team.

In total, 95% of companies surveyed either have optimizers leading AI search or directly involved in the process. Only 1% entrust AI-driven search optimization to teams without SEO professionals. Solis notes that while her audience is naturally inclined toward SEO, the overwhelming 95-to-1 ratio is hard to dispute.

She emphasizes that AI-powered search optimization is still managed by those who understand search as both a channel and a marketing discipline. The core principles of SEO have been expanded by AI, not replaced. Solis cautions that if a newly minted GEO expert lacks a solid SEO background, it’s best to keep your distance.
