OpenAI’s ChatGPT will now display real-time Yelp reviews, ratings, photos, and business info in local search results. Users can request quotes from service providers directly in ChatGPT. Yelp branding and links will be included.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT is expanding its local search capabilities by incorporating real-time data from Yelp, including reviews, ratings, photos, and business details. This integration, confirmed by Axios, means ChatGPT users will see Yelp-sourced content and branding when searching for local businesses or services.

Yelp CEO Jeremy Stoppelman told Axios that while OpenAI determines how Yelp’s content appears within ChatGPT, all Yelp data will include clear branding and direct links back to Yelp’s platform. This move extends Yelp’s distribution network, which already includes partnerships with Yahoo+ and Apple Maps, and now adds ChatGPT as a new channel for reaching consumers.

The agreement allows Yelp to continue licensing its data to other AI companies, with no exclusivity restrictions. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

One notable feature coming to ChatGPT is Yelp’s “Request a Quote,” which enables users to contact local service providers for quotes, consultations, or appointments directly through the AI interface. This addition aims to streamline the process of connecting users with local businesses inside ChatGPT.

The partnership highlights a growing trend of AI platforms relying on third-party data to improve local search results-a known weakness for ChatGPT until now. As more users turn to AI for local recommendations, the presence of trusted sources like Yelp could influence how people discover and interact with businesses.

However, trust in AI search remains a challenge. According to Morning Consult research cited by Yelp, 65% of Americans have used AI search tools, but only 15% express strong trust in them. The same survey found that 72% of respondents believe AI platforms should always disclose their information sources.

Yelp’s approach to licensing data is shaped by its past experience with Google. The company previously provided content to Google, but the relationship soured over disputes about Google’s local search practices. Yelp is currently suing Google, alleging unfair favoritism of its own local results.

This development comes as other platforms also expand AI-powered search. For example, YouTube recently introduced an AI-driven Q&A feature for US users, as detailed in this related report.

Founded in 2004, Yelp reported over 265 million cumulative reviews and more than 73 million unique devices accessing its platform each month as of 2025. The company remains a leading source for local business information in the United States, with a business model centered on advertising and data licensing partnerships.
