Shopping on YouTube is changing fast. The platform has built new AI shopping features right into its Ask YouTube search tool. Now, viewers can ask for product recommendations and get clear, organized answers without leaving the video they’re watching.
YouTube’s Shopping affiliate program is set to expand to 35 countries by year-end, with more than 1.3 million creators already enrolled.
YouTube says the push to expand Ask YouTube comes from clear user behavior. In June alone, over 140 million people used the feature to explore videos-a jump of more than 500% since December. This growth is driven by a custom Gemini AI model that matches complex questions to the exact moment in a video where the answer appears. The result: viewers move from passive watching to active, focused engagement with both content and creators. As Superpower Daily reports, these shopping tools build on YouTube’s conversational search, not as a separate shopping platform.
For creators and publishers, this means their product advice and reviews reach viewers who are ready to buy. The AI connects people to the right videos and lets them ask follow-up questions right on the watch page. This keeps viewers engaged and builds trust in creator recommendations. At the Made on YouTube event, the company confirmed that video titles and channel names stay visible in Ask YouTube results, so creators still get credit and traffic. This supports the wider creator economy.
A separate AI-powered shopping initiative, Business Agent, is currently being tested inside eligible YouTube ads for U.S. retailers. This tool allows viewers to ask product questions directly within the ad experience, extending the same AI shopping logic that Google first introduced in Search earlier this year.
For digital publishers and creators, the impact is immediate. Those who create detailed product content and honest recommendations will see more visibility and better conversion rates. At the same time, AI shopping tools are raising the bar for what viewers expect-personalized, useful, and easy experiences. YouTube’s latest update makes it clear: the company wants to lead where video, search, and shopping meet. Creators and publishers who move fast will be best placed to catch the next wave of audience attention and revenue.
