A new report highlights Reddit's growing role in women's health. Unfiltered discussions and AI tools are changing how women seek information. Brands are urged to adapt to this evolving content journey.

Reddit is rapidly becoming a central platform for women's health discussions, according to a new report from Reddit and Omnicom’s The Weber Shandwick Collective. The study, now in its second year, finds that women are increasingly turning to Reddit for candid, anonymous conversations about sensitive health topics-spaces where traditional networks often fall short. This shift is significant for publishers, marketers, and health brands seeking to engage audiences in authentic, high-trust environments.

Kathleen Hunter, executive vice president of client experience at Weber Shandwick, said the report focuses on how the content discovery process has evolved. She noted that Reddit’s structure allows women to bridge the gap between clinical literature-often based on male-centric studies-and the lived experiences they seek. The survey found that 81% of women on Reddit feel more comfortable discussing their bodies on the platform than with friends and family, who scored 72% on the same question.

The report also highlights the integration of AI tools such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude into these health conversations. Hunter stated that AI-driven searches on Reddit have increased fifteenfold, and women using Reddit for health information are three times more likely to cross-reference data with large language models compared to those who do not use Reddit. After engaging with Reddit, 70% of women reported feeling better prepared for healthcare discussions, with 61% seeking clarity on symptoms and 55% wanting to distinguish between normal and concerning health issues.

Generational differences emerged in the survey of 866 U.S. women and their partners, conducted in April. Both Millennials and Gen Xers are sharing early signs of perimenopause and strategies for navigating new health challenges. The report notes that Gen Xers, in particular, are using social media for radical transparency, crowdsourcing medical evidence, and rejecting the idea of suffering in silence-a marked shift from previous generations.

For health brands and marketers, the report recommends participating in women’s content discovery journeys with earned, owned, and social content. Addressing specific qualitative questions in community forums and on AI platforms is seen as key to building trust and relevance. The authors suggest that marketers should help destigmatize perimenopause, menopause, and postpartum challenges by validating experiences, clarifying symptoms, and equipping women with the language needed for effective conversations with healthcare providers.

This approach to audience engagement echoes strategies seen in other sectors, such as when a Norwegian publisher built a digital product for runners to drive subscriptions and foster community, as detailed in a recent analysis of local sports coverage innovation.

Reddit, founded in 2005, has grown to over 50 million daily active users as of 2026. The platform hosts thousands of active communities, including many focused on health and wellness. Its unique combination of anonymity, community moderation, and open discussion has positioned it as a valuable resource for users seeking peer-driven information and support on a wide range of topics.
