US advertisers now have access to TikTok’s ad network, spanning 400,000 apps. AI shopping and lead tools are set to change how brands connect with buyers.

American brands just got a new way to reach people. TikTok has opened its TikTok Ad Network to US advertisers, unlocking access to nearly 400,000 third-party apps. This launch hit during New York Advertising Week. TikTok is making a clear play to take on the big digital ad players and push its reach far beyond its own app.

Marketers can now run campaigns that go past TikTok’s main feed. The network covers more than 40 app genres and 300 sub-categories. TikTok Ad Network, once called “Pangle,” plugs right into TikTok Ads Manager. Advertisers get TikTok’s targeting data and keep brand safety controls from DoubleVerify and IAS. Until now, US advertisers couldn’t use this network. That limited their reach off TikTok.

The TikTok Ad Network was originally launched under the name Pangle by ByteDance, with industry sources citing either 2018 or 2019 as the initial rollout year.

TikTok is not stopping at ad reach. The company is rolling out new commerce and ad tools powered by AI. The “Shopping Assistant” is a conversational AI agent. It helps users find products, uses context and user data to suggest items, and remembers what people like. This is similar to Meta’s Muse assistant, which has already been downloaded over 5 million times. The AI shopping race is heating up.

Lead generation is getting an upgrade too. TikTok’s new AI agent talks with high-intent users and guides them toward becoming leads, all inside the app. For brands, this means a smoother path from interest to sale. The timing matters. The holiday shopping season is coming fast. TikTok is also rolling out a faster in-app checkout. Now, users can buy without leaving TikTok. That could change how brands think about selling on social media.

Other platforms are racing to build out commerce and automate shopping. The stakes are high. As shown in recent coverage of YouTube’s affiliate sales tests, every major social and video platform is fighting for seamless, data-driven shopping.

TikTok’s new Shopping Assistant and Buy Direct features are being rolled out for users and brands in the US. Shopping Assistant provides details on product features, delivery, sizing, and availability, while Buy Direct enables purchases directly from the For You feed without leaving the app.

For publishers, creators, and brands, TikTok’s bigger ad network and AI shopping tools bring both new chances and new hurdles. Off-platform reach with TikTok’s targeting could open up fresh revenue and campaign ideas. But as shopping and lead generation get more automated, brands will need to stand out and keep user trust. TikTok is blending content, commerce, and ads. Those who move fast will win attention. Others will fall behind. The market is crowded.

A Marketing Dive report says TikTok’s ad network now covers almost 400,000 third-party apps worldwide and is fully built into TikTok Ads Manager. For independent ad checks, TikTok works with Integral Ad Science to measure viewability, invalid traffic, and brand safety.

TikTok’s new shopping tools are being built with Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe, plus other e-commerce and payment partners. These features add to TikTok Shop, which launched in the US in September 2023. Brands can now sell right through their own TikTok touchpoints, as detailed in a TechCrunch summary.
