A new AI model from Meta’s Superintelligence Labs is now powering image generation on Instagram, WhatsApp, and the Meta AI app. The technology will soon expand to Facebook and Messenger, offering advanced prompt reasoning and user integration.

Meta has introduced its first AI image generation model developed by the Superintelligence Labs division. The Muse Image model is now live across the Meta AI app, Instagram, and WhatsApp, with plans to roll out to Facebook and Messenger in the near future, according to the company’s announcement on Tuesday.

This launch marks a shift from Meta’s previous Llama models, as the Muse family of AI models takes center stage. Alexandr Wang, who was brought on last year to lead Superintelligence Labs, described Muse Image as “agentic.” The model collaborates with the Muse Spark large language model to interpret prompts, search the web, and plan before generating images, aiming for more contextually relevant and dynamic results.

One notable feature is the ability to incorporate other Instagram users into AI-generated photos, expanding creative possibilities for social content. This approach reflects a broader trend in AI-driven media tools, where user participation and personalization are increasingly central. The move follows similar initiatives in the creative AI space, such as Suno’s recent program to attract independent artists, which you can read about in this coverage of Suno’s Spark incubator for musicians.

Meta’s announcement signals a continued investment in generative AI for its social platforms, with the Muse Image model positioned to enhance user engagement and content creation across its ecosystem.
