Guardian Expands With 55 New Digital and Visual Journalism Roles

Dozens of new jobs are coming to the UK, US, and Australia. The Guardian is investing in video, audio, and data journalism. The move aims to reach new audiences and strengthen its digital future.

Media professionals focused on digital growth and content innovation will see new opportunities as The Guardian launches a major hiring initiative across its UK, US, and Australian operations. The publisher is adding 55 permanent positions over the next year, targeting expansion in video, audio, and data-driven journalism.

This hiring push is part of a multimillion-pound, multiyear investment designed to make The Guardian more digital, visual, and global. The new roles will support video-first content, advanced data visualizations, and the creation of a dedicated US video team. Guardian Australia is set to become a global hub for social media hosts, further strengthening the brand's international reach.

The investment also extends to product, analytics, and commercial teams. James Fleetham has been appointed commercial director for Project Berger, a key initiative within this expansion. Editor-in-chief Katharine Viner said the strategy is focused on combining The Guardian's reputation for impactful reporting with more visual, digital, and experimental journalism.

Publishers worldwide are exploring new models to drive digital engagement and audience growth. For example, Swedish newsrooms have adopted innovative metrics to track subscriber interaction, as seen in recent efforts by Bonnier News Local and Gota Media.
